Yoga, Why? For What?

The main aim of Yoga is to make each and every part of the body active and healthy. Yoga Asanas are of two types: Still Asanas and Movement Asanas.
~ In the Still Asana, one is supposed to maintain it for longer periods of time, thus activating the postural muscles and giving relaxation/rest to the movement muscles.
~In the Movement Asanas, the muscles move in a particular rhythm, thus creating balance between them and correcting the joint alignment.

In the beginning phase of Yoga Asana practice, there is a little tension or stretch which develops in the muscles but with regular practice this stretch goes away thus making the muscle flexible. After reaching the end pose of an Asana, maintaining that pose for some period of time is very important, then only all the waste metabolites can be cleared off from the system effectively.

The Involuntary Organs : The Yoga Asana have an effect over the pancreas, liver, duodenum, heart, brain, etc.

The Respiratory System : While performing Yoga Asanas the act of breathing also gets corrected and regulated which gives an indirect benefit to the heart and lungs.

The Endocrine System : Yoga Asanas also have an effect over the endocrine glands, thus regulating the hormones resulting in control over the body and emotions.

The Blood : Yoga Asanas also have any effect over the blood flow. Due to the rhythmic movement the blood flow becomes even and reaches to every corner and cell of the body, thus giving nutrition and regulating the blood pressure, cleaning away the accumulated waste metabolites resulting into improved immunity.

The Spine : Performing Yoga Asana gives flexibility to the vertebral column and the spinal cord, thus regulating the nervous and electrical activity of the nerves.

The Fats : Yoga Asanas makes muscles strong and tone them leading to removal of excess fat.

The Overall Development : Practicing of Yoga Asana not only regulates the body functions but also gives stability to the speech and the mind. It not only gives control over the body, but also control over speech and mind, thus along with improving the physical health there is also mental health improvement with regular practice of Yoga Asana and one can then become ready for the journey of finding inner peace and inner self. Practicing of Yoga Asana enhances mental peace and helps in soul development.

Having a control over the body is far more important before one attempts to get control over one's speech and mind.
